Perkins Property Feature Project
Location - Maxwell Street
Take one city lot, RT-10 zoning and some creative architecture. Blend in a quality builder and some passion and you get three very efficient, modern houses and a lot of happy homeowners.
The largest of the structures on this city lot is approximately 2300 square feet and has a Nana folding wall system to offer the best of outdoor and indoor living rooms. It also has a large outside deck to offer incredible city views and even a 150 sq ft green roof which allows the homeowner to grow their own produce.
Jim Perkins, President of Perkins Construction says that this type of multi dwelling is the way of the future as vacant land becomes scarcer, "this type of building ensures that every square foot of these units is well thought out and efficient." Thomas Grimwood of Thomas Grimwood Design Inc, one of the designers on the project adds that "through thoughtful design it's possible to realize three highly livable houses on one lot, without compromise."
All buildings in this project are sided with cedar to provide a natural look have vaulted ceilings and utilize commercial aluminum windows. Greenwood says that "the long band windows and private outdoor spaces are his favourite part of the design."
A lot of thought went into even the smallest of details including doors, keyless entry systems and shower features.
Perkins says that this project was a good challenge, "we got to be creative and show off our skills by using different materials and concepts. "Grimwood adds that" modern design is not as forgiving as something more traditional so with features like exposed concrete and clean detailing so there isn't the opportunity to go back and conceal mistakes with layers of materials."
